A bit about our first Commander
A bit about our first Commander:
Major Ron Reid Daly receiving the Commander of the Legion Of Merit (CLM) on 29 October 1976 for his pivotal role in Operation Eland, the then unprecedented flying column raid deep into enemy territory in Mozambique, with no aerial cover or support - an operation initially offered to and declined by the SAS, which speaks to exactly how incredibly dangerous the mission was. Op Eland delivered spectacular results, which set the blueprint for a host of incredibly successful cross border operations that followed. It is worth noting that the CLM was normally reserved for senior Generals at the highest levels of command, which speaks volumes for Uncle Ron's standing in the army that he would receive such a prestigious award as a mere Major at the time.
